Nightmare on Pennsylvania Ave.

Nightmare on Pennsylvania Ave.
Trina L.C. Sonnenberg

I am going to deviate from Internet marketing here, and write about something which has been troubling me for quite some time. The subject: Politics and government spending.

In poll after poll, it seems that most of the American people do not approve of how their tax dollars are being spent. Additionally, many are outraged about how they are not being spent.

For example, billions of dollars are spent on a war, the majority of Americans want no part of. Federal subsidies are granted for abstinence only programs that have scientifically been proven ineffective. Money is being spent to translate information into a language not native to our country, to accommodate illegal aliens, and others who refuse to learn English in order to acclimate to this country.

Money allocated to secure our border with Mexico is not being spent (Less than 20 of the 864 miles of border fence has been constructed.), but money is being poured into talks of opening that same border for the North American Union, and dumping the U.S. dollar for the Amero.

Cigarette tax was supposed to raise the price of a carton of cigarettes by $6.00, to fund a children's health care plan, which Georggie promptly vetoed. So where is the cigarette tax money going to go? Personally, I thought the children's health care plan was a good place for it. And yes, I am a smoker.

Being that many elected officials tend to make decisions based on corporate influence, and not the wishes of the American people; making campaign promises that get them elected, but never make it to fruition, couldn't this be construed as taxation without representation? What if tax payers refused to pay taxes?

I would have no problem paying taxes, even higher ones, if I felt I had say in how and where they were spent.

Illegals pay no taxes, but suck up tax dollars in government services.

Our elected officials are the employees of the American people. These same people vote themselves pay raises, huge pension plans and benefit packages. When was the last time your employer allowed you to decide how much money they were going to pay you? Most of these people make more money in a five year period than the average America citizen will ever see in a lifetime. Does your boss make less money than you do? Will you see a paycheck, with cost of living increases, for the rest of your life, even after leaving your job and taking another?

How long will you be allowed to keep your job after proving to be a miserable failure at it? In most employment situations, you can lose your job after one significant screw-up. How many times has the president screwed up in the last six years? Why does he still have a job?

Elected officials are supposed to reflect the will of the people; the people are not supposed to have to tolerate the will of the officials.

President Clinton had impeachment proceedings enacted against him for having an extramarital affair with an intern. George Bush has sent thousands of American soldiers off to die on foreign soil, and refuses to bring them home from a war that is not winnable. Which is more criminal?

President Clinton left office with the coffers in a state of surplus. George has drained the treasury dry.

Time and time again, George W. Bush has denied the American people; isn't it time that we deny him?
