Cyber Abuse : Part 3

Cyber Abuse : The Death of Blog and Ping
Part 3
By Trina L.C. Schiller

In June of this year, Google started beta testing a new system for indexing blogs. I believe that this project was undertaken as the result of bogus blogs cluttering search results with junk pages.

Google has launched its Beta program called Google Blog Search. Essentially, Google has decided to separate blogs with actual site feeds, from mainstream search results by making an entirely separate engine and indexing system for them. No feed, no ping, no index within GBS. And, if I am understanding this correctly, this means that blogs without site feeds will be subject to the same crawling critieria as static web pages. You can ping weblogs.com all day, and it won't matter, because unless you've got a feed, Google won't pay attention to you as a blogger. Furthermore, if you do have a feed, you'll be indexed in GBS and not in Google proper, which means that searchers will only find you if they are looking for a blog.

This could be a really good thing, but I predict that it won't be. Blogs having their own engine, so-to-speak, could be thought of as a showcasing of content, rather than isolation. However, I see spammers polluting the well with non-information, sending searchers back to looking for web sites rather than blogs, for what they need. If people stop searching GBS, then what good is it to have a listing there? Blogs will have been rendered useless for search engine ranking all together.

Software pushers and gurus are making a bundle, having convinced John Q to shoot himself in the foot as a blogger. To add insult to injury, while the cash continues to roll in, from the sale of spamming manuals and programs, the pushers are already working on the next plan to fleece poor John, when the fervor of today dies.

Have you ever considered that the creative genius' behind all of this task automation are feeding you a line of crap, (teaching you to do it the wrong way) while they themselves, are implementing the proper methods of Internet recognition, playing both ends of the stick?
