This morning I opened my DeskView, and read my QMTP messages. The first message is something I would like to answer publically. The sender of this message did not leave me a method with which to respond to him, and I thought this might be a good opportunity to respond to others who may be wondering the same thing.

Okay, so here is the message:

QWebsite/triizine: "I would like some Information Please. Just explain how this would be useful to me. What would I use it for ? How would this make my life more interesting? Will it give me a chance to make money? Do I have to spam? How do I communicate with other People?"

First of all, because this message was generated from my web site, The Trii-Zine Ezine home page, and I think that, 'Internet marketing resources and information, without the geek-speak,' is pretty self explanitory, as far as what the Trii-Zine, itself, is about, I will assume that the questions are in reference to using RSS for communications. The writer was not very clear on his topic of inquiry.

I know that this message originated from the sender clicking my contact link, on my web site, because it is prefixed with: QWebsite/triizine. If the message had been sent from my actual ezine blog page, the message prefix would've read: triizine. I'll get into that a bit more later on.

"Just explain how this would be useful to me" RSS is a technology that can be used in a variety of ways to communicate with others, either one to many, or one to one. If you have a need to communicate with others, online, RSS is a tool that you would benefit from.

"What would I use it for ?" RSS feeds are an email-free way to communicate with other people on the Internet. Because it is not based on an email system, it is a spam-free form of communication.

You can publish newsletters and ezines without having to worry about spam, autoresponders, bulk mailing programs, list cleaning, etc.. Publishing via an RSS feed is truly a 100% opt-in situation. Each subscriber must physically subscribe in order to receive feed updates.

Additionally, since RSS feeds can be syndicated, you have the opportunity to generate more exposure for your information, by allowing other webmasters to reproduce your feed on their own web sites.

You can use it to communicate with other business associates, partners and affiliates, privately and securely, without using email.

With the Quikonnex system, you can create password protected RSS feeds for special groups of people. You can even charge people a subscription fee to your newsletter this way.

You can even use it for creating a place for your family and friends to get together and keep in touch. The actual uses for RSS are limitless.

"How would this make my life more interesting? Will it give me a chance to make money?" Anything which allows one to be creative makes life more interesting. Whether or not you can make money with anything, is pretty much up to you. You can make money using RSS, I do, and so have many others. It depends on what you do with it.

"Do I have to spam?" Absolutely NOT! No one ever has to spam, not even those who send email. Spamming is a choice, not a requirement. RSS communications are not based on email, therefore, no spam. Others must 'tune in' to you to get your message. You cannot inflict your messages upon them. Think of it as someone tuning in to watch their favorite TV program.

"How do I communicate with other People?" When using a blogging system, like blogspot, or even a program you run on your own server, you communicate through the blog itself. You post, others comment.
